World’s greenest eco resort to open in Dubai
The “world’s greenest eco resort” is set to open in Dubai in 2020, according to reports.
The project, by Dubai-headquartered company Eco Resort Group, will be located in the Liwa desert. This particular resort is scheduled to open in 2020, however, it’s just one of many green resorts planned by the firm.
Baharash Bagherian, Designer and Founder of Baharash Architecture, the London-based architecture firm who were commissioned for the design, said that the UAE’s culture is at the heart of the project. “At the very early stages of the project, we found out that we could extract groundwater using a deep well. This gave us an opportunity to create a story around a spring, which was of critical importance to Bedouins for trade and transportation routes”.
This spring will form the central area of the resort. The surrounding area will be used for accommodation, made up of a total of 84 suites with outdoor terraces.
Wastewater will be recycled on the site, and there will also be specialized waste management, so that transportation isn’t required for either of these tasks. The project will be using 157,000 square feet of solar panels and have a zero-emission zone.
