Wayne Rooney heading to Dubai
Manchester United fans beware: your hero is heading here. Yes, Wayne Rooney, the club’s legendary striker, is due in Dubai anytime now for a week long break, as he struggles to recover from injury. We hear that Rooney will be bringing his wife Coleen with him, as they seek some warm weather relief from the English spring.
Where will they stay? No official word yet, though Rooney is no stranger to the emirate having visited several times before. And it’s no surprise that the man who earns over AED1m a week usually stays at the seven star Burj Al Arab.
His last high profile visit here was in October 2010, when he came for a break after a difficult year. He had been linked with a move to rivals Manchester City, and was also having marriage problems following newspaper claims of him playing away from home.
Rooney damaged his knee during a recent match at Sunderland, and there were fears that the 30-year-old would need surgery and could even miss the Euro 2016 finals in France, which start in June this year.
But after being told he won’t need surgery, United manager Louis Van Gaal agreed to send him to Dubai to help speed up his recovery. The club are hoping that he could be back in action for them by the end of March.
He’s definitely arriving at a good time. Not only is it perfect Dubai weather, there’s also plenty to do. Next weekend sees Taste of Dubai make its return, and ShortList is a media partner.
