Wayne Rooney plays with a tiger in Dubai
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney flew into Dubai last week to get some sun with wife Coleen, while recovering from a knee injury.
His last high profile visit here was in October 2010, when he came for a break after a difficult year. He had been linked with a move to rivals Manchester City, and was also having marriage problems following newspaper claims of him playing away from home.
Rooney damaged his knee during a recent match at Sunderland, and there were fears that the 30-year-old would need surgery and could even miss the Euro 2016 finals in France, which start in June this year.
But after being told he won’t need surgery, United manager Louis Van Gaal agreed to send him to Dubai to help speed up his recovery. The club are hoping that he could be back in action for them by the end of March.
He’s certainly made the most of his time here. While the famous footballer has been spotted in a knee brace, he hasn’t let that stop him enjoying his holiday. Photos have emerged of Rooney playing with a tiger and feeding a giraffe. Arabic language daily, Emarat Al Youm, says that the photographs were taken at a private farm in Al Khawaneej.
Mohammad Abbas, the brother of Al Nasr left back Hussain Abbas, told Emarat Al Youm that he was pleasantly surprised at how approachable and friendly he was.
“Sometimes, you can tell if a person is arrogant from the way they talk, but Rooney is very down-to-earth and kind-hearted, I didn’t expect that,” he said. “He spoke to us about his professional and personal life comfortably like any ordinary person.
“He told us about the players who he likes and who he hates, and he told us Cristiano Ronaldo is the best player he has ever played with.”
Play restaurant have also uploaded a picture of the player to their Instagram account with the caption: “Only with the best PLAYers in the world! Wayne Rooney at PLAY last night.”
