6 things to do in Dubai this week

Opening parties, ladies nights (and days) plus comedy and cinema. If you’re feeling crafty there’s even a calligraphy workshop. This week Dubai offers plenty to keep you busy while beating the heat.

Ladies Day at Zero Gravity
We’re used to ladies night, but how about ladies day? On Tuesdays, Zero Gravity offers complementary pool and beach access to ladies all day – and if that sounds ambitious during the scorching summer months, the pool is cooled to 27 degrees. Add your name to the weekly guestlist by emailing [email protected] with the subject “Ladies Day”.
When: Every Tuesday
Where: Zero Gravity, Skydive Dubai Drop Zone

Monroe Nights
It’s the grand opening of Monroe Nights at Billionaire Mansion, which will be rolled out every Tuesday from this week. Ladies will get complementary drinks from 9pm until 12am, with floor-filling music and plenty of RnB.
When: Tuesdays from 9pm
Where: Billionaire Mansion, Burj Khalifa Boulevard, Taj Hotel,

La Noche Blanca
The annual La Noche Blanca party returns to Coya on Wednesday. As you’d expect, it’s a white theme, with Coya transforming all three of its venues across the world for the celebration. After dinner there’s a dancefloor to throw some shapes on until the early hours, with music from resident DJ Rogerio Lopez as well as a live saxophonist.
When: Wednesday, July 20

Calligraphy Design on Silk Painting

Cinema – Ghostbusters (15)
It’s difficult to think of a film release that has arrived with quite as much pre-launch baggage as this all-girl reboot of 1984’s slime-a-thon. The original might weigh heavily in the first half hour here, but after that the cast of Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon offers such a gear change as to render comparisons meaningless thereafter. It is, like all (director Paul) Feig-McCarthy collaborations – BridesmaidsSpy – a riotous 90 minutes of slick gags and polished performances. So forget the past and enjoy.
