Fire breaks out in Dubai Marina tower

UPDATE (5.45pm): The fire is now out and cooling has begun.

UPDATE (5pm): Dubai Civil Defence say that there have been no casualties reported. They are still working to put out the fire.

UPDATE (4.05pm): The side of Sulafa Tower facing the Palm Jumeirah now looks under control, although there is still smoke. There are still flames on the side of the building facing Sheikh Zayed Road. Watch out for debris nearby and road closures.

Residents in a tower in Dubai Marina are being evacuated after a fire broke out at around 3pm today. Although initial posts on social media speculated that it could be MAG218 or Marina Pinnacle, we can confirm that it is 75-floor skyscraper Sulafa Tower. According to Sulafa Tower residents, it appears that the fire is on mid-level and high floors, although this has not been formally confirmed. Firefighters are on the scene.

Dubai Marina residents from nearby towers and passers-by have uploaded images to Twitter. The fire is believed to have broken out at around 3pm, and there are no reports yet as to how it started.

The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi have opened the ballroom to offer temporary shelter and refreshments.
