A fire broke out in a 75-floor Dubai Marina tower shortly before 3pm on Wednesday afternoon. According to Dubai Civil Defence, the blaze was brought under control within two hours and no injuries were reported.

Sulafa Tower residents were evacuated yesterday afternoon and around ten fire engines with over 50 firefighters rushed to the scene. Nearby roads leading into the Marina were shut off, as debris fell from the building. Two sides of the tower were in flames, with mid-level and high floors affected, making the job difficult for emergency services.

Crowds were offered temporary shelter in the ballroom of the nearby Westin Mina Seyahi hotel, however many stayed nearby to see if their homes would be ok. Some residents on low floors were allowed back in on Wednesday night, however, early this morning nobody was allowed in.

According to a resident who does not wish to be named, there is a sign up saying “No Entry”, and they are unsure of any timescales as investigations are ongoing. Many people are waiting in reception to find out if their homes are damaged.

One resident from a penthouse apartment told us: “I was at work when the fire broke out, but my other friends in the building texted me straight away to tell me what was going on. We don’t know when we will have access to our apartment to see if our stuff has been damaged. My friend has a cat which he is very worried about.”

Thanks to efforts from Dubai Civil Defence, the blaze was under control within two hours and it had been put out by 5.20pm.
