Dubai resident wins 1 MILLION dollars after surviving plane crash
Winning a million dollars is extremely lucky. Surviving a plane crash is even luckier. For one Dubai resident, both of these events came within six days of each other.
A man who escaped from the Emirates plane that crash landed on Wednesday last week has just won $1 million in the Dubai Duty Free Millennium Millionaire draw.
Mohammad Basheer Abdul Khada, a Dubai resident who comes from India, bought a ticket for the draw on his way to Thiruvananthapuram in the south of India, Gulf News reports. According to the article, this is just the 17th time he has bought a ticket in the draw, and the win comes four months before he was due to retire from work.
The 62-year-old returned home after the incident on board flight EK521, and on the following Tuesday he found out that his ticket number 0845 had won the draw. “I have been working in Dubai for 37 years, and I have always felt like this is my country. I live a simple life, and now that it’s my time to retire, I feel like God gave me a second life when I survived the plane crash, and blessed me with this money to follow all this up by doing good things,” he told Gulf News.
He plans to help less fortunate people with his winnings – not by giving to a charity, but by seeking out individuals who need help. “I will continue to work till I can. Nothing else can give you the satisfaction of your hard-earned money,” he added.
Khada now earns AED8,000 a month, however, there were times when he struggled financially. His 21-year-old son was paralised shortly after birth, which cost Khada a lot in medical bills which amounted to more than AED99,000.
Congratulations to a very deserving winner!
