LOCAL TALENT: Rami Yassine
Rami Yassine

His family is Lebanese. His name is Lebanese. He looks Lebanese. But 28-year old model Rami Yassine is Dubai-born and raised and it’s this city that has given him the opportunity to be a top model, a career that he has pursued for well over a decade now.

Signed to the Bareface agency’s books since he was a teenager, Rami has done a wide number of editorial and advertising campaigns that have appeared across the region, demonstrating there is a career to be made with the right look and, perhaps most imporantly, the right attitude.

How did you get into modelling and was it something you always wanted to do?
A model agent scouted me in Deira City Centre mall when I was 15. I had never thought about modelling and, at first, I was unsure how successful I would be; I initially thought I’d be happy with just one job a year, but my career took off and I’ve been modelling full time since. My first job was for Head & Shoulders.

How much work goes into staying in shape?
A model’s version of sitting in an office is spending time at the gym. It’s all part of the job and a responsibility to work out and take care of yourself. I spend a minimum of one hour in the gym every day.

What is your top grooming tip?
As men, we need to take care of our skin, so I always use a good eye cream and moisturiser. Especially if I have been out the night before.

What is your favourite item of clothing?
My new leather jacket from Zara. The style is kind of grungy, which is a trend I’m really into at the moment.

What advice would you give to anyone looking into a career as a model?
Have a positive attitude and believe that you can do it. Always keep up to date with current trends and be aware of what’s going on around you, make sure you have an edge that makes you stand out from everyone else. Keep changing your portfolio to keep it current and up to date so clients remain interested in you.

It’s fair to say it’s not a long-term career. What’s beyond the photoshoot for you?
I’ve started to become very interested in property development. I definitely plan to explore that further. I think you should always think about what’s next. Always think ahead, don’t leave it to the last minute. I believe that you’ve got to take risks in life or you won’t achieve your goals.
