The world's largest Ferris wheel is halfway complete
Roll up, roll up! The world’s biggest Ferris wheel is now hallway complete. And, of course, it’s in Dubai.
Ain Dubai (previously known as Dubai Eye) is now clearly visible on Bluewaters Island, near Jumeirah Beach Residence. There are now five 107-metre sections of the wheel rim complete, with only three left to finish.
To give you an idea of its size – each rim section weighs the same as two Airbus A380 aircrafts!
The completed wheel will be 210-metres, making it largest Ferris wheel in the world, surpassing the 167-metre High Roller in Las Vegas. It also beats off competition from the 192-metre New York Wheel expected to open on Staten Island in 2018.
As well as the vast observation wheel, there’s an island full of entertainment and dining facilities below.
A 4D cinema will give visitors the essential facts about Dubai, leading to escalators up to the load platform. The ‘flight’ of the wheel is expected to be around 48 minutes long, giving you an ever-changing view of the city.
Meraas, the Dubai-based developer behind the project, have big plans for the development. The wheel is the focal point of Bluewaters Island, which will be a destination with leisure and entertainment, retail, hotels and beach clubs and residences.
The private island will have private access from Sheikh Zayed Road, a mono rail system and a pedestrian bridge to the beach.
There are ten residential buildings that will offer waterfront living (which will definitely mean a premium price tag), and the penthouses look particularly ostentatious - we're talking floor-to-ceiling views of the sea from your bedroom and a private outdoor pool. Take a look at the video below to see for yourself…
Bluewaters Island is expected to be finished in 2018, and it’s hoped that Ain Dubai will attract three million visitors per year.
