If you fly out of the UAE from the Dubai International Airport regularly, you may have noticed the crowds growing.

According to Dubai Airports’ latest report, passenger traffic at DXB International surpassed over 43 million passengers in the first half of 2017 alone – that’s roughly over 238,000 passengers a day…

According to the report, the airport handled a total of 43,054,268 passengers in just six months, the figure is 6.3 percent higher than the first six months of 2016 – the exact figure recorded was 40,507,251.

Aside from passenger flow, the report also found that the number of passengers per flight increased by 6.9 percent to 218 passengers when compared to the first half of 2016.

As the number of passengers increased, so did the amount of cargo. During the first half of 2017, the amount of air cargo transported was a staggering 1,302,911 tonnes – a 1.6 percent increase when compared to the previous year.

Speaking on the news, the CEO of Dubai Airports said: “We are pleased with the growth in the first half, and with the rush of travellers expected to hit peak at the end of school holidays later next month, we are looking forward to another quarter of positive growth. We will continue to focus on improving service quality at DXB by bringing in new experiences and services to engage and delight our customers.”

With a number of improvements already underway at Dubai International Airport and with the laptop ban lifted on all Emirates flights to the US, we can only imagine that these figures will be much higher by the end of the year.

If you’re unfamiliar with the airport upgrades, here’s what you need to know…

Emirates launched the “Together” initiative in May of this year.

The project’s main goals is to “enrich passenger experience at the city’s main airport”.

It aims to do so by creating innovative and practical solutions to any problems currently faced in the airport based on “6s” – speed, smart, safety, security, saving and service.

Some of the changes that all passengers can look forward to include simpler check-in processes as well as baggage drop-off and tracking services.
