Ryan Reynolds is teaming up with Netflix to shoot his next movie in the UAE
Expect to run into everybody's favourite Green Lantern this winter as he starts shooting his latest blockbuster for Netflix in Abu Dhabi.
Unfortunately, this is not another Deadpool movie. Instead, Ryan Reynolds is teaming up with Michael Bay (yes, big explosions and giant robots Michael Bay) and Netflix to shoot the streaming giants most expensive movie to date, with a budget of around $125 million (Dh460 million).
Six Underground revolves around six billionaires who fake their own deaths and form an elite team to take down bad guys. It's set to be the kind of action film that based on that premise alone, we can't really form words, let alone an opinion. It's a Michael Bay movie, take from that what you will.
Dave Franco is joining Ryan Reynolds for the movie, along with Mélanie Laurent and Ben Hardy (hopefully of upcoming Bohemian Rhapsody fame with Rami Malek).
The film will be produced by Skydance Productions, the same US company that oversaw the recent Mission Impossible: Fallout shoot in Abu Dhabi.
It could end up filming in the capital for up to six months, so this should give you plenty of opportunities to go celebrity-spotting around Abu Dhabi. Maybe Ryan Reynolds will even make a few trips up to Dubai during his stay and try hang from the Dubai Mall fountain for real.
According to The National, "location scouts for the movie are currently in Abu Dhabi, finalising where Bay can best shoot a robot exploding over a sand dune". No, that wasn't a typo, this Micahel Bay movie will also have a robot or robots.
