6 things to do in Dubai this weekend

Being as it’s India’s Independence Day this Saturday, we’ve given you two delicious options for the weekend. In between all that food, we’re got some underground DJs, new club nights, and a ‘happy hour’ that lasts for three hours. See you on the other side…

De-Con-Struct at Square

Fans of De-Con-Struct will be pleased to know that the club night is back for the new season, and it even has a new home in the recently opened Square nightclub. The club manages to be grungy and stylish at the same time, with a European feel that’s rare on Dubai’s nightlife scene. This Thursday, Sierra Sam will be behind the decks until the early hours.

Dorian Craft at Cirque le Soir

Cirque’s recently launched Bordel every Thursday hosts international DJs from some of the world’s biggest clubs. This weekend is no different, with Dorian Craft from France, who has played alongside the likes of Tiesto and Fedde Le Grand. Being Cirque, there will be fire-shows and circus freaks to entertain clubbers.

Mint Leaf of London

We’re big fans of Mint Leaf’s haute Indian cuisine here at ShortList, and as it’s India’s independence day on Saturday, why not make a weekend of it with Mint Leaf’s Friday brunch. The modern restaurant has fantastic views of Downtown, including the Burj Khalifa, and the cocktails on offer are top of the range. Expect classic Indian street food with a five-star twist. Better yet, it’s on from 1pm to 4,30pm, giving you plenty of time to eat your fill. AED195 for soft drinks, AED295 for house beverages, AED345 for sparkling, and AED435 for bubbly.

Funky Fridays at Sho Cho

After brunch, take advantage of Sho Cho’s happy hour from 7pm until 10pm… Ok, it’s a happy three hours, but who’s complaining? A large range of cocktails are on offer for AED30, and if you’re still peckish, we recommend you try their sushi.

Pure Sky Lounge Brunch

For those who prefer brunching in the evening, this is one for you. Pure Sky Lounge’s table service brunch takes place every Friday from 6.30pm until 9pm. There’s a large range of food on offer and free-flowing drinks, all with a backdrop of the Arabian Gulf. With prices starting at AED150 per person, this is one brunch that should definitely be on your radar.

Indian Independence Day

This Saturday is India’s Independence Day, and if you didn’t get enough at Mint Leaf’s brunch, there are plenty of fine dining restaurants where you can celebrate. Famous chef Sanjeev Kapoor has three restaurants in the city alone! Atul Kochhar and Vineet Bhatia are also known for their five-star Indian cuisine.
