Donald Trump signs return in Dubai
Another day another Donald Trump headline. Last week we reported that UAE-based real estate developer Damac Properties took down some of its signs with Trump's images. It looked like the company had reacted to the same ‘Muslim ban’ comments that led Landmark Group to pull all Trump Home products from its stores, however, much of the Trump branding is already back up.
Part of the billboard sign on Sheikh Zayed Road that had Donald and Ivanka Trump on it was removed on Thursday. It seems that far from being a statement regarding Trump's controversial political comments, the company were simply replacing the image. Rumours over the weekend that Damac and Trump could be terminating their golf course collaboration appear to have been quashed.
This all follows the wannabe US Republican presidential candidate’s latest statements calling for a ban on Muslims entering the United States. Shortly after he made the comments about imposing a ‘Muslim ban’, many companies who work with Trump in the Middle East spoke out against him. Landmark Group went so far as to stop selling any products with the Trump brand.
At the time Damac Properties’ senior vice president Niall McLoughlin said: “We would like to stress that our agreement is with the Trump Organisation as one of the premium golf course operators in the world and as such we would not comment further on Mr. Trump’s personal or political agenda, nor comment on the internal American political debate scene."
Damac Properties are currently working with Trump to build two golf courses in the city. And it would appear that they’re going ahead with the project.
