Urban Picnic at 3in1
Vida Downton offers this languid picnic brunch by the pool each weekend. New for 2016 is the live barbecue station that was developed in consultation with UK chef Andy Bates, while there is the usual blend of music and upscale finger food – from pizzas and hot dogs, to cheeses, breads and roasted marshmallows. They even throw in a red chequered tablecloth.

They call it the Polo Brunch at the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club’s signature restaurant. And with good reason. You can check out a professional polo game or show-jumping tournament as you tuck into your food, or try an amusing game of camel polo, organised for groups, to work up an appetite. If that sounds like far too much effort, sit back and enjoy gazing at the lush lawns and majestic setting.
Where: Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club, Arabian Ranches
When: Fridays, 12.30pm-3.30pm
Price: AED295 to AED565

In addition to their themed evening brunches, you can now enjoy Yalumba as a garden party that sprawls from the restaurant down to the pool and beyond. Entertainers, inventive drinks displays and a “secret garden” atmosphere lend a sense of magic and mischief to the mix. There’s a buffet, live cooking stations, sushi platters and much more. The fun continues at the afterparty, too.
Where: Le Méridien Dubai Hotel & Conference Centre
When: From AED499
Price: Fridays, 12:30pm-3:30pm

For table bookings of eight to ten, the Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeriah offers a boat ride from the Dubai Marina to the hotel’s jetty at an extra cost, where you’re welcomed like celebrities. This thoroughly grown-up brunch – check the seafood bar – takes its culinary inspiration from The Big Apple, so there are bites representing New York’s main food districts like China Town and Little Italy. Great desserts, too.
Where: Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeriah
When: Fridays, 1pm-4pm
Price: AED345 to AED600
