Uber and Careem private taxi services are currently down in Abu Dhabi, it is being reported.

Careem tweeted through their Careem UAE Twitter account: "We are doing our best to be back online in Abu Dhabi as soon as possible."

The company told The National: "Due to some unforeseen circumstances, we expect potential service interruptions in Abu Dhabi over the next few days. We work with licensed vehicles in Abu Dhabi and we are working closely with TransAD to ensure both a reliable service and adherence to fleet requirements. We will make sure the disruption is minimal to our customers and thank them for their understanding during this time."

Uber UAE explained that the suspension is temporary. They tweeted "Operations in Dubai continue as usual and we will keep you posted when we resume Abu Dhabi operations."

Uber added that their service is still running from Dubai to Abu Dhabi. However, you'll have to ask your driver to wait for you if you need a ride back to Dubai.

If all else fails, there's always the bus...
