Blasé in the Cavalli Club

What: The Cavalli Club hardly needs much in the way of the big build up; the glittering interior has established itself on Dubai’s nightlife scene and has remained an upscale, if still frenetic lounge for well-heeled Thursday nights out. You don’t have to valet a Lamborghini here but, well, it helps.

A new and very much welcome addition is Blasé, a private jazz room that sits in fully sound-proofed isolation away from the main club, is perhaps our favourite new venue in the entire emirate.

It looks like: A plush, well-designed speakeasy. It only holds 30 people at the most – it has a total of five tables – and is the kind of place you can imagine yourself arguing with Ernest Hemingway over one too many ice-filled tumblers about sentence construction.

It sounds like: Midtown New York. A jazz band plays on a raised stage behind the bar, slipping out a succession of styles from soul, blues and even delving into funk. It’s accomplished and never overwhelming, meaning you can still have a conversation without shredding your larynx.

You need to order: Nothing. Have a chat with James and Andre behind the bar about your taste preferences, and they’ll whip you up something special.

Insider tip: There’s a secret entrance that requires a password, allowing you to reach the spot without seeing anyone else, and feel even more like you’re somewhere special. But we’ve said enough…

You’d go back for: The cool, escapist vibe.

They need to fix: The legroom.

If this bar was a Hollywood star it’d be: Al Pacino. Never mind the dimensions, feel the quality… and you know there’s an award just around the corner.
