Dubai Bars: 4 great sports bars to visit in Dubai

With the FIFA World Cup well underway, we’ve shortlisted four great bars that air sports throughout the year.

The Irish Village

Sports bars in Dubai - The Irish Village

A true Dubai institution, The Irish Village is one pub that you need to tick off your bucket list in order to be considered a true local expat. All the viewing action takes place indoors on the venue’s many LED TV screens while the spacious outdoor area is home to live entertainment – local and international, that kicks off just after 10pm – it makes for a great night out during cooler climes and makes for the perfect Christmas snap come December when the massive pine tree by the pond is lit. The predominately Irish staff are friendly, hands on and incredible knowledgeable so, if you’re struggling to find something to chow on, just give them a shout. We recommend the fish and chips that’s served with mushy peas and tartar sauce as well as the deliciously filling bangers and mash. Both of which are great when paired with a pint of black stuff. As you would imagine, the venue gets pretty packed on weekends and during special occasions like Christmas so, be sure to make a booking in advance.

Lock, Stock & Barrel

Dubai sports bars - Lock, Stock & Barrel

The venue is decked out in flags and fitted with a number of LED screens that air everything from the Premier League football to the Rugby Championship. The space spans across two floors, with the upper deck mainly reserved for sit down meals while the lower floor is home to a number of pool tables, a massive projector screen and come midnight, a dance floor. Nope – you read that right, a dance floor. One that is always packed on Thursdays and Fridays, thanks to the venue’s back to back dance tracks and RnB hits. If food is more your forte, be sure to check out LSB’s international food offering that includes the likes of hummus, prawn crackers, chicken satays and onion rings. In short, if you’re looking for a place to watch the game and party afterwards, LSB is the place for you.

Bridgewater Tavern

Sports bars in Dubai - Bridgewater Tavern

Located inside the JW Marriott Marquis hotel, this lively sports bar is illuminated by wall-spanning TV screens showing NBA, football, rugby and tennis. Wood is fused with iron across the venue – from tables and chairs to ceilings and wall fittings – to give it the all-important industrial vibe. Bar stools pepper the outside of its central island as more sports screens loom down to the craned-necked clientele below. And, while it may be a sports bar, the food is five star. Expect to find everything from moreish boneless chicken wings to the venue’s signature black burger – a black brioche bun served with a perfectly seasoned slab of beef that literally melts on the tongue, to equally delightful Nutella donuts.

McGettigan’s

McGettigan’s JLT - Dubai Sports Bar

The Irish gastro-pub is home to a number of our favourite things; great bites, excellent service, billiards and it’s very own garden and entertainment space, The Baggot. Dark stained interiors and exposed bookshelves set the scene while the venue’s lively tunes – a live band plays most nights and on the weekends, sets the mood for the occasion. We say “occasion” because it’s a great spot for after work drinks, lunch, dinner and brunch (from AED249 per person). If you’re a fan of comedy, be sure to check The Baggot’s roster as a number of local and international acts such as famed British comedian Jason Byrne frequently perform at The Baggot. When it comes to sporting events, McGettigan’s goes all out, airing major tournaments such as the NFL, IPL and the Premier League on its many screens. It also hosts daily happy hours and has a pretty decent quiz night that takes place every Tuesday from 7pm.
