David Guetta to play Dubai New Year gig
One of the biggest names in dance music, David Guetta, is set to light up Dubai at New Year with a concert at Media City’s amphitheatre, ShortList can exclusively reveal. The man responsible for almost every earworm of the last five years will bring his massive club anthems to the desert for a gig that’s expected to be one of the hottest tickets in town.
We’re not even going to bother listing David Guetta’s hits – nobody’s got time for that. It wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say that the UK and US charts almost always have a song by, featuring or remixed by the megastar in the top 10. Songs such as “One Love”, “Titanium” and “Club Can’t Handle Me” are played in clubs around the world, working with artists spanning rap, EDM, pop and hip hop. He’s truly ubiquitous on the music scene.
Naturally, Guetta’s sixth album, Listen, features a plethora of famous names such as John Legend, Sia, Birdy and Emili Sande. And, as has become expected from the French DJ, almost every track became a hit. The album itself was umber one on iTunes in 75 countries. He’s one of the most coveted producers in the world these days, and artists are tripping over themselves to work with him – it seems that every track he touches turns to platinum. In fact, earlier this year Bebe Rexa described working with Guetta as “love at first write.”
Starting out as an unknown name on France’s underground music scene, he’s gone on to reach mainstream success. But the DJ doesn’t attribute this as a personal crossover, instead he told the Guardian that the whole genre shifted. “When I started, all dance music was underground,” he said. “If you were going to play house, you had to be underground because it wasn’t the type of music that was crossing over. My evolution also came with the evolution of the scene in general.”
