Sustainability Projects For Decarbonization Drive- DMCC

Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC), which is the UAE’s largest free-trade zone, recently took a step forward in line with the Net Zero Carbon Strategy 2050 and Jumeirah Lakes Towers (JLT) community by announcing the latest set of sustainability projects to boost up the decarbonization of the JLT community. The agreement signing was made in the presence of HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, the Chief Executive Officer, and Managing Director of DEWA.

DMCC is the first free zone in the Gulf Cooperation Council to make a direct commitment to the UNGC. Due to this commitment, DMCC has published annual reports on sustainability showcasing its progress in achieving sustainability targets.

In Order To Decarbonize The Economy, DMCC Implements Sustainability Projects

Recent reports show that the DMCC and Etihad ESCO had finally handshake and signed an agreement at WETEX highlighting a need for solar parking shade in all major and minor locations in the JLT district.

In total, the agreement states a need for solar parking shade projects in 17 JLT districts. The discussion even covered a key point of installing solar-proof panels at the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre Tea Centre and its related Coffee Centre.

Further discussions point out that they are planning to implement other serious undertakings targeting both water and energy efficiency. Though the discussion was carried out earlier this year, the agreement was recently signed and got revealed by DMCC and Etihad ESCO recently at WETEX. 

A recent report shows the further movement of DMCC that they are planning to bring up more positive changes via projects that work by signing more papers with Etihad ESCO. The main aim of DMCC is to make the JLT community highly efficient in terms of both water and energy.

The agreement signed between DMCC and ESCO is a long-term agreement, which is for 2 years. Right after signing the agreement, the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority and Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition are now looking for the best part which is the LT Cluster’s car parking areas are equipped with solar car shades.

The agreement even views that the project will hopefully result in bringing a substantial reduction in DEWA tariffs, which help the property owners make big savings yearly by creating Jumeirah Lakes Towers highly affordable for both the tenants and UAE citizens. 

After the agreement signing ceremony carried out between DMCC and Etihad ESCO, Dubai Multi Commodities Centre is in a quick plan to install solar panels at the DMCC Tea Centre, OneJLT, the Jewellery & Gemplex building, and the DMCC Coffee Centre.

Along with installing solar panels in major spots in the UAE, the DMCC is also planning to bring innovations to the JLT District car parks that will get equipped with efficient ventilation and lighting that paves the way for lower energy consumption. 

The new agreement is surely a path toward success that is powerful enough to solve major issues that are faced today and in the future. The movement is at the right time and on the right track, which helps lower carbon emissions by all means.

All the projects initiated by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre have delivered immense positivity in every field they touched. 

The Etihad ESCO have shared that they feel proud to chain a tie-up with DMCC in a project which is a much-awaited turning point. The involvement in such an important project made ESCO get involved in many of the strategies championed by the UAE on sustainable energy.
