Speaking about the achievement, Mohammad Al Gergawi, Chairman of the Museum of the Future Dubai, said “We had made a pledge that Dubai’s Museum of the Future would be hosting one million visitors within the first year of operations.

Today, we are celebrating achieving this target and also marking the second year since the launch of the museum. During this second year of functioning, we will continue our efforts in designing a future that has a better world for all of us in the years and decades to come.”

He also added “It is the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid that allowed the Museum of the Future to become a reality and also to house the greatest minds including top scientists, architects, experts etc. along with the most prominent and best institutions from all over the world to shape a better future.

At the same time, humanity is better assured that the future we design should not ignore the changes to our environment. With its unique architectural design, the Museum of the Future has become a global symbol representing the future and also an essential international as well as regional hub that works for the advancements in the fields of science and promotes sharing of knowledge.”

The Museum of the Future project, which is an initiative taken by the Dubai Future Foundation, was designed by the Dubai-based Killa Design Architecture studio. Shaun Killa, the founder of Killa Design, is the man behind the design of the museum, which he describes was created based on a vision of the future, wherein the floors within the physical structure are expected to showcase the future as we all know it today and also what we expect to see 5 to 10 years from now.

The iconic void that is there in the centre of the structure is designed to represent what we do not know yet, and also as a reminder that people who seek to know the unknown will have their focus on innovation and discovery, which ultimately takes humanity on the path for a better future, thereby creating a continuous process (the outer loop building) that replenishes the things we see within the museum.

On the exterior walls of the museum, you see artwork which appears to be in Arabic. Well, those are in fact calligraphy work done by Emirati artist Matar Bin Lahej and comprises three famous quotes by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which are “We won’t live for hundreds of years, but we can create something that will last for hundreds of years.”,

“The future will be for those who will be able to imagine, design, and build it. The future does not wait, the future can be designed and built today.”, and “The secret of the renewal of life, the development of civilization, and the progress of humanity are in one word: innovation.”
