BOA Opening Party
W Hotel is about to get even cooler, with the opening of glamorous new club BOA on its 32nd floor. The lounge-club’s official launch will take place on Thursday, October 6 with Swedish DJ and producer Otto Knows. You probably know the 27-year-old from his collaborations with artists like Britney Spears, Avicii and Sebastian Ingrosso – he’s also responsible for 2013’s song of the summer “Million Voices”. Partygoers are encouraged to dress up for what promises to be a grand occasion.

This is the launch party for the new club Cymatics in the H Dubai, already home to some great venues. This low-ceilinged den will host a house set from Woz, who we speak to in this week’s issue.

Beach Music Festival
One of the slicker hotel beaches in Dubai is being turned into a mini Ibiza this weekend with a three-day festival of (quality house) music. DJ Eddie Ferrer is the main attraction but noted Euro clubs such as No Solo Agua in Portugal and PH+ and Duplex in the Czech Republic will also be bringing their unique vibes over. Bliss Lounge residents Robert Walker, Miss Eden and Jack Woodcock will also be on hand, alongside saxophonist Lucio. It kicks off at 6pm on the Thursday, with the parties on Friday and Saturday starting at 2pm. Entry is free after 4pm, but booking a cabana might be the way to go for this one. Then stay all weekend.

One Big Friday
DJ legend Paul Van Dyk is back in Dubai to headline the first of Zero Gravity’s day-long mega-parties. The first DJ to receive a Grammy nomination and twice named World’s Number One DJ, there probably isn’t a better way to kick off the second half of 2016. He’ll be joined by UK house act 99 Souls, Dutch act Dubvision and ShortList favourite Chris Wright.

Candypants Afternoon parTEA
Being the brand behind one of Dubai’s notorious party brunches, you can guarantee that Candypants aren’t putting on the kind of afternoon tea that comes with scones and a pot of brew. This Saturday they are transforming Wet Deck in W Hotel into a ‘parTEA’ complete with jelly and ice-cream, and mixed drink tea pots. It comes in two parts. 1pm – 4pm is chilled out with poolside tunes, while those looking for loud music, water guns and dancing should join from 4pm – 9pm.
Price: AED375 from 1pm-4pm including food and drinks. AED275 for drinks only. Free entry from 4pm.
When: Saturday, October 8
Where: W Dubai – Al Habtoor City, , +971 502 204 638

Cinema – The Girl on the Train (18)
With echoes of Alfred Hitchcock’s voyeuristic horror Rear WindowThe Girl on the Traincharts the daily commute of recent divorcée Rachel (Emily Blunt) and her obsession with the seemingly perfect couple (played by Luke Evans and Haley Bennett) she witnesses from her seat each morning. However, when she sees the woman in the arms of another man, her shock leads to a chain of events that she doesn’t understand. Blunt is excellent in this decent reworking of Paula Hawkins’ novel.
In cinemas from October 6
