4 places to celebrate Oktoberfest in Dubai

Where on earth did October go? We’re already more than halfway through and we haven’t so much as an heard an ooompah-ooompah band, never mind slap a naked thigh.

There is, though, still time to grab some Bavarian fun before Halloween dominates your social life. Here are five places still serving up the best of Oktoberfest.

As German as it gets – and that’s just the name. This month, the Hofbräuhaus in the JW Marriott Hotel Dubai in Deira has gone full-on with its celebrations, including drafting in guest head chef Jakob Kellner from Hofbräuhaus Munich. He is passionate about Bavarian cuisine and has created a menu of Bavarian cold cuts, pretzels, homemade Kaiserschmarrn shredded pancakes and obatzda, a cheese delicacy made of aged soft cheese and butter.
Of course, you can’t leave without a massive slice of appelstrudel, which will be washed down with some tunes from live German band. AED395 buffet with house beverages… and you still have until October 28 to get amongst it.

Oktoberfest DXB
Last chance to get in on the Bavarian fun. This 10-day-long festival at the Media City Amphitheater will celebrate the best of Germany – whether in culinary, musical or liquid form. There is the usual array of costumes, lederhosen dancing, tasting sessions and some Champions League tie-ins.

When: October 20-29

JB’s Gastropub
We’ve developed a rather large affection for this gastropub in the Amwaj Rotana and this is another reason why. They are selling German brews by the litre and half-litre, are stuffing the menu with the likes of pretzels, cured meat-platters, sauerkraut, schnitzels, herbed potato cakes and sausage rolls with mustard. They’re even doing a currywurst. Everything is priced a la carte.

Grand Oktoberfest Tent
This celebration of German food, drink and music has now been running 10 years and the Grand Hyatt Dubai has gone the extra kilometer to provide a proper Bavarian spectacle. The Die Kirchdorfer band has flown in from Munich especially, while the culinary team have devised a menu full of the usual array of schnitzels and sausages. On Saturdays, there is a brunch buffet between 12:30pm-4pm, priced at AED299 for house beverages.
