Howzat
This play about two couples living on The Palm claims to be the first production ever to be based in modern Dubai. Focusing on a Pakistani couple and their neighbours, one Indian and one Greek, it contains all the usual expat experiences – humanity, peace, Salik, traffic jams and cricket.

Ripe Festive Market
Ripe’s new weekly night market gets a festive twist for December in their usual idyllic spot overlooking the sea. Call it Christmas shopping the Dubai way – lots of choice with a great view. And the Mina Seyahi culinary team will put on the food – try not to go back for more from the Buns & Cows burger truck!

Audio Visual Display at Dubai Fountain
Make sure you check out Dubai Fountain this week, as Infiniti are showcasing the world’s first audio visual display at The Dubai Fountain. The show will take place at 8pm and 10pm from Wednesday until Saturday and it’s free to watch. Better yet, book yourself into one of the restaurants that looks over the fountains to make sure that you get the best view.
When: 8pm and 10pm, Wednesday December 14-17
Where: The Dubai Fountain

Diskonect
The regular all-night midweek mayhem at Vii Lounge in the Conrad Hotel. There’ll be a live band on the terrace and, back inside, three residents playing back to back. The combined talents of Frederick Stone, Aidin Karami and Michka will be steering you through another big party on Sheikh Zayed Road.
When: Wednesday, December 14
Where: Vii, Conrad Hotel

Cinema – Lion (18)
Dev Patel is back in Calcutta for this affecting drama about a man returning home to find the family he lost 20 years before. It’s based on the true story of Saroo Brierley, who got lost on the streets of Calcutta as a five year-old before being adopted by an Australian family (David Wenham and the ever persuasive Nicole Kidman). Brierley then uses a combination of Google and persistence to track his real family down. Overdone at times but moved you will be.
