This is a firm favourite of ours and always worth the wait for a seat. That wait is likely to get longer now Eggspectations have launched all-you-can-eat nights three times a week. Try delicious pasta dishes on Wednesdays (AED54), flatbreads on Thursdays (AED66), and on tacos on Fridays (AED59). And we know you all love tacos, so go try and break a record of something.

Being such a futuristic city, it’s fascinating to learn about where Dubai started, before the skyscrapers and tourists arrived. Etihad Museum offers a look at the history of the UAE, including the era before the country’s founding. Entry is free and it is now open to the public between 10am and 8pm daily.
When: 10am-8pm, daily

The Ripe Market
Ripe is already a bit of an institution among foodies and craft hunters in the UAE. It aims to support local businesses – from farmers to jewellery designers – with markets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi that also offer hours of mooching opportunities. Every Wednesday from 2pm-9pm, Ripe will take over Mina Seyahi Amphitheatre with fresh fruit and vegetables as well as stalls from small local businesses.

Assassin’s Creed (18)
Games to movies haven’t always worked – Prince of Persia? – but maybe Assassin’s Creed will start a new, healthier trend. More of a companion piece than a straight-up adaptation, this film sees our cover star travelling in time to stab CGI-generated bad guys by the grace of some sci-fi sorcery. Add Marion Cotillard, a shadowy corporation looking to exploit Fassbender’s “genetic memories” and an Inquisition-era Spanish backdrop and you’re staring at a pretty decent Friday night.
In cinemas from December 29
