Madam Butterfly
One of the great operas, Puccini’s Madam Butterfly is set in the Japanese port city of Nagasaki in the 1890s and revolves around an American naval officer stationed in the city and a local girl, whom he plans to marry as an entertainment until he finds an American wife. This production is a revival of Jaochim Herz’s set design, in which we view the story as if through sepia photographs.
