Nine great things to do in Dubai this week

Welcome back, we've missed you. How was your weekend? Did our list of activities come in handy? We're sure it did. Now that we're all back to work, here's a list of ten activities to help get you back into the swing of things.

Enjoy and fear not, the weekend will be here soon.

Coffee Craftsmanship
Immerse yourself in the world of coffee at The One & Only Mirage Hotel with Nespresso Coffee Craftsmanship. Get an insight into the craftsmanship story behind the coffee with a series of workshops from the best coffee connoisseurs while indulging in the sensory experience inspired by the crafts of five countries: Nicaragua, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Columbia and India
When: From 11am to 5, October 3
Where: The One & Only Mirage Hotel

Swim, Eat & Relax
Summer is over and the real swimsuit season begins. We don't always advocate The Palm as a getaway, but we'll make an exception for the Anantara where AED299 gets you beach access alongside a set menu from The Beach House. Ananatara The Palm boasts three huge lagoon pools that wrap around the rooms, as well as an oceanfront, 50-metre infinity pool offering the perfect resort style vacay deal. Get ready for the perfect Dubai Instagram posts.
When:  Until September 30

Translation 101 with some SEO on the side
Always wanted to distinguish your "ahlan" from your "shukran"? Us too. When "Yalla Habibi" is the only phrase you can comfortably say in Arabic, it might be time to take a class. Ureed.com is hosting a Language Word-A-Thon, which starts at 10am on Saturday, September 29 at The Youth x Hub, Emirates Towers Boulevard. You won't walk away from this special one-off class fluent in the language, but this crash course is the perfect way to get started on your journey into a second language, or third, or more if you have that kind of time. The same group is also offering a beginner's course in SEO later in the day, which could lead to a new skill on your CV.

Jumeirah restaurant week
We’re a big fan of food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snacks, you name it, we’ll eat it. Which is why when we heard that Jumeirah Restaurant Week was returning we did a small happy dance and immediately thought about where we wanted to try this time around. For those who don’t know, Jumeirah’s favourite eateries introduce set menus at three different price points (AED150, AED250 and AED350) to give folk a chance to sample the delights they have to offer. It’s also a great way to sample new delicacies that you’d never usually consider on a restaurant visit. And with the event going on across the week, it’s also the perfect excuse to go and dine out every night. Well, it’d be rude not to, right?

Cinema Aki: Mcqueen
Take your chance to marvel at this Alexander McQueen biopic that is heading to the homegrown art house cinema for a short time only. By interviewing close friends and family members of the late British designer, the film compiles the most compelling insight into his life. And further enriching the narrative are recovered archives and exquisite visuals that help to celebrate his life and talent. Tickets cost AED52.50.

Groove on the Grass
This year’s hotly anticipated Groove on the Grass will be headlined by none other than UK electronica legends Orbital. Alongside special guests, the 90s duo consisting of brothers Phil and Paul Hartnoll will front the music and arts festival’s seventh year in Dubai. Get your party pals together and prepare to dance, people. Tickets start at AED260.

Where: Emirates Golf Club

Contemporary Dance at Concrete
Aw, we love Alserkal Avenue and its dedication to delivering cultured (and, you know, free) activities to fill our calendars.  This time, Migle Praniauskaite Dance Company, Reconstruct, is the latest free-for-all to make its way over. The 60 minute performance shows a warped vision of a world unravel, all with electronic music helping to set the tone.

Culinary Month
It’s the right time to be in Dubai if you’re a foodie. For the second year, Atlantis, The Palm is holding a special month which invites guests to meet, greet and eat with some of the world’s most famous and celebrated chefs – Nobu Matsuhisa and Gordon Ramsay, to name a couple.  Save some money on your meals and meet your culinary idols, it’s double win.

Andrea Oliva Live
We generally don’t need much convincing to spend a Thursday night in Soho Garden. But if we did, Andrea Oliva playing live would do it.  The Swiss DJ, producer and remixer will take to the decks this weekend, and tickets are free. With the music promising to be pumping until 3am, you’re in for quite a night if you make it down there.
