Middle East Games Con
Whether it’s your best mate’s birthday or an important work project you’ve got scheduled in, you better start cooking up your excuses because you can’t really call yourself a true gamer if you don’t plan to be at the Middle East Games Con 2018. Setting up camp in the capital, the convention brings a multitude of attractions under one roof, including YouTube stars like Pro Syndicate and Miniminter, gaming challenges on the likes of Fortnite and more, and even an immersive anime and Japanese culture experience. But we’re carving out a chunk of our time in honour of the Battle of the Classics set up. It’s a retro arcade games area with childhood favourites such as Pacman, Sonic the Hedgehog and Mortal Kombat to get stuck in to. Tickets start at AED115.50 for one day access, or you could go big and pay AED800 for the VIP, access all areas pass.

Games Con Workshops
Sessions are planned over the weekend to cover topics such as  safety in the industry and developer secrets from the the folk in the know, plus loads of skill-boosting tips and tricks from the experts.

Education Zone
Want to get started in games development? Then this is the place to be as professors and professionals will offer advice on the courses that will speed you towards a career in video games.

Swan Lake
Another week, another classic comes to Dubai Opera. This time, the venue is taking in the most famous ballet of all time – Swan Lake. Over 140 years since its inception, Houston Ballet is presenting the love story between Odette and Siegfried, with the The Orchestra of the National Opera of Ukraine playing  composer Tchaikovsky’s original score to accompany the talented dancers. Tickets start from AED250.

Drift Beach Dubai
Get yourself down to the picturesque surroundings of Drift Beach this weekend for a two-day party. The venue will celebrate the delights of the French Riviera and host a mini-festival that includes DJs, live entertainment and a number of giveaways across both days. Très bien!

Africa Fest UAE
Head to Emirates Golf Club for a celebration of African culture this weekend. The festival will see an eclectic mix of musical artists including Congolese performer BM who will be joined by South African Afro-pop group Freshlyground and more. There will also be a chance to grab some authentic African art and clothing, as well as indulge in a range of African cuisine from some of the best eateries around.

David Guetta live
When your – ahem – “love takes over” for this DJ where should you head on Thursday night? Base is the answer. The glitzy nightspot – which has recently hosted rapper A$AP Ferg – will have the EDM heavyweight mixing tracks and banging out his hits all night. There’s no need to buy tickets in advance (you can reserve a table if you’re feeling fancy) but ravers are advised to arrive early to secure entry.

Want some hearty food and exclusive entertainment all rolled into one? We’ve got you. Well, actually, Luigia’s has, as this week the pizzeria are putting on a special night with comedian and television personality Umberto Smaila. Jurassic Park
Now that we can finally enjoy the outdoors without dreaming of diving into an ice bath, we’re going to make the most of it. One of the first things we’re going to tick off our list is kicking back at an outdoor cinema. As part of its Sea-nema Nights series, Azure Beach is putting on a screening of the 1994 classic Jurassic Park for AED50 per person. Indiana Jones & The Raiders of the Lost Arc will screen the week after, too.
