Sole survivor: The biggest celebration of shoes in the UAE returns to Dubai Design District
Get out your old school Jordan’s and get ready for the largest cultural festival in the region. Back for its seventh year, Sole DXB returns for two days and three nights of hip-hop, fashion and food. And of course, so many kicks.
This year, Sole DXB is shining a light on emerging designers from around the world – with a notable focus on South Africa – while paying homage to the 30th anniversary of the second Summer of Love.
Don’t worry, even with a particular focus on young, independent brands, everyone’s favourite sneaker names will be taking their place over the weekend. Adidas is boasting an ‘experimental activation’ while Puma will launch its new Selena Gomez collaboration, the Strong Girl collection.
Over 22,000 people are expected to descend upon Dubai Design District from December 6 to 8, with Nas, one of the rap game’s biggest names, taking centre stage alongside Lion Babe, Roxanne Shante, Giggs and so many more.
Organisers have also collaborated with ten brands and creators to produce an exclusive run of Sole DXB merchandise that is only available at the event, so expect the local hype beasts to be out in force.

Biggie Smalls’ golden crown is being brought along to Sole DXB by Reebok. The hip-hop legend’s iconic accessory was shot by Barron Claiborne who will also be hosting a book signing for Contact High; A Visual History of Hip-Hop. Get a picture with a piece of history.
The legendary New York artist is considered to be contemporary rap’s greatest innovator in storytelling, as well as one of the greatest MCs of all time. This will be his first ever gig in Dubai. He will also be leading the speaker line-up in a series of cultural talks.
Adidas is hosting a Panna Cage tournament to bring street-style football to Sole DXB. If you’ve seen any videos on YouTube, you know this is a moment that’s not to be missed as it brings some of biggest names in the game to Dubai to show off their footwork and showmanship.
Not just hip-hop and sneakers, it’s also about the food. They’re bringing cult favourite Sweet Chick to the city for the first time, that counts Kendrick Lamar, Cameron Diaz and Mariah Carey among its fan base. You don’t need that kind of endorsement to enjoy their signature chicken and waffles, though.
