Sports news: Old Trafford latest, plus Conor McGregor
Ole, ole, ole, Ole
It can’t be easy jumping into a new job in a place where everyone knows your name and expects you to live up to it. For Ole Gunnar Solskjær, though, taking over the hot seat at Old Trafford has been easier than predicting a Jose Mourinho scowl. They wanted a legend, they’ve got one, right?
For us pugilism purists and true fight fans in general, the rise (and rise, and rise) of UFC has been something of a laughing stock. Conor McGregor can’t punch his way out of a paper bag (as proved against a ‘retired’ boxer) and now he and his latest conqueror have both been banned from the ‘sport’. Khabib Nurmagomedov, for his part, actually looks like he can handle himself.
The pressure is on Mauricio Pochettino to deliver, especially as the saga over Spurs’ new stadium seems to be dragging on longer than an episode of Towie. But can he really get away with saying finishing in the top four is worth more than an actual trophy? Arsenal fans among you must be giggling into your copy of The Gooner.
Gone with the windies
Regardless of how the series pans out (or where your loyalties lie), seeing England on the back foot against a resurgent Windies side can only be great for the game. For too long, cricket fans have been aching for a Caribbean side from the good old days. And Jason Holder, take a bow...
And then there was...
Football hooliganism. Get over it. Seriously. That ugly head should be reared no more.
