Sharjah Art Foundation hosting two-day musical extravaganza
If you’re feeling the urge to groove to some Arabic tunes this weekend, Sharjah Art Foundation has you covered.
The contemporary art and cultural foundation is hosting a two-day musical extravaganza all about Arabic music, featuring the live performances from local talent, discussions on all things music and even a special film screening.
What to expect exactly? There will be a Ma3azef Symposium on Arabic Music, the third edition of the biannual Re|sound, and live music performances by duo Kamilya Jubran and Werner Hasler, Muqata’a and $$$TAG$$$.
Kicking off on Friday April 5, guests can expect talks from 2.30pm until 7pm about the state of Arabic music from more than 20 writers, critics and musicians. Best part? They’re all completely free to attend.
There will also be “Re|sound”, Sharjah Art Foundation's bi-annual event for musical experimentation in dialogue with the medium of film. The third edition will feature a screening of Lujain Rakadh’s film Rahhala (2017) in tandem with live music performed by experimental artists from the region.
Later on, prepare to boogie down, as $$$TAG$$$ will be spinning all your favourite electronic tunes from 10pm until 11pm.
As for Saturday, there will be talks bright and early from 10.30am until 6pm about the “Discontinuity in Arabic Music” along with its alternative music scene.
Once you’re all talked out, it’s time to return to the dance floor with live performances from duo Kamilya Jubran and Werner Hasler. Exploring poetry, language and cultural legacies, the duo features Jubran on vocals and oud and Hasler on trumpet and electronics. Sounds quirky and unique – we love it.
