A new addition to Bluewaters Island, Puerto 99 is a Mexican-themed restaurant specialising in seafood and steak. We like the sound of that. Smokey stewed lamb tacos sound appealing, as does the Black Angus skirt steak. If you don’t fancy a full sit-down meal, feel free to order from the bar food menu while you sip on a refreshing beverage. Great food, great drinks, great views.
Where: Bluewaters Island

Homegrown drummer and percussionist Kdun Albaz will be showcasing his talents at The Fridge, in Alserkal Avenue, this week. Having recently collaborated with musicians from 13 countries in order to produce his latest work, Albaz will be performing tracks from that particular album, City Vibes, at the warehouse venue. A self-taught drummer, Albaz is a unique talent who has dedicated his career to musical exploration. In 2011, the artist discovered the HANG, a Swiss-made drum-like instrument that generates haunting acoustics. Albaz, using this instrument, then came up with a new genre of music which fused modern styles with culturally-inspired melodies. He will be the third performer in The Fridge’s Concert Series. The event gets underway at 7.30pm and runs right through to 9.30pm. It’s AED50 for adults, AED30 for under 21s and free for those under 13.
When: Monday 22 April

The 3,000 ft cliff of El Capitan in California’s Yosemite National Park has never been scaled before, but rock climber Alex Honnold backs himself to reach the top. His task, though, is made all the more difficult by the fact he is taking on the challenge without using any safety ropes. This American documentary film charts Honnold’s attempt at overcoming what is a fierce, life-endangering challenge, from start to finish. Free Solo took the Best Documentary Feature prize at this year’s Oscars, and it’s not difficult to understand why.
