Top 10 live music destinations in Dubai

Coca-Cola Arena
The redeveloped arena, located in City Walk, opened at the beginning of June with American pop-rock band Maroon 5 the first musical artists to perform there. Over the course of the summer both The 1975 and Westlife will also be playing live at the venue, with many more big-name acts expected to follow looking further ahead. With the venue boasting a capacity of 17,000, it’s an obvious destination for the biggest music acts to perform at when they come to Dubai, ensuring as many people as possible are able to attend events.

Dubai Media City Amphitheatre
Prior to the opening of the Coca-Cola Arena, the Dubai Media City Amphitheatre played host to the bulk of the big musical events in Dubai, attracting acts such as Ed Sheeran, Paolo Nutini. Surrounded by smooth green lawns, a lake and a cityscape of modern architecture, the venue represents a wonderful place to watch live music, particularly when the temperatures are slightly cooler. For outdoor events, it’s perfect. Great weather, hops in hand while listening to (or even strutting your stuff to) quality music. There are certainly worse ways to spend your time here.

Hard Rock Café
If you’re into live music, and you haven’t yet visited Dubai’s Hard Rock Café, you should definitely head down to the Festival City venue, where musical acts perform on stage every day of the week. It’s probably one of the city’s most well-known live music venues, playing host to both local and international talent. Let’s face it, there are certainly worse ways to spend a night than chewing on a juicy burger while swigging on a hops and relaxing to top-notch live music. Biffy Clyro played at the venue, which has been open for 21 years, in 2018, which
says it all.

During the week at this Business Bay rooftop venue you can relax to the sounds of some of Dubai’s emerging talents on the music scene. It’s a chilled vibe at Iris, which is no bad thing, especially if you fancy heading down after a tough day in the office. It’s chill-out sessions on a Monday, where regular performer Danny Aridi will be on stage between 6pm and 9pm, while on a Tuesday the pace is picked up slightly with non-stop live entertainment and shows from some of Dubai’s best musicians.

The Irish Village
Not much beats sitting outside in the sunshine while sipping on an ice-cold beverage and enjoying some decent live music, and if that sounds like your idea of a good time, then you should do yourself a favour and check out The Irish Village, which is located in Garhoud. A Dubai institution, the venue boasts a big garden area and possesses a surprise village-like feel with a friendly, feel-good atmosphere that’s difficult to replicate. In recent times, drinkers at the Irish Village have been able to watch the likes of Dodgy and Toploader, while lesser-known acts such as MJ’z, who perform tracks by the likes of The Zutons and AC/DC, play regularly.

The clue is in the name. Seven nights a week, you can enjoy a smooth and silky soundtrack, with high-quality jazz beats supplied by some of the industry’s most talented musicians, at the Pizza Express branch in Jumeirah Lake Towers. The setting is slick and cool, just like the vocals of the performers, and it’s a fine way to spend an evening, regardless of whether it’s during the week or while you stuffing your face on “cheat day” at the weekend. The food, it must be said, is also top class, making for the perfect combination as you tuck in.

Q’s Bar & Lounge
A plush and upmarket venue in which the emerging artists who perform are hand-picked by Quincy Jones, the American musical legend and designer of Q’s Bar and Lounge, himself. Located in the Palazzo Versace Hotel, it’s a brilliant place to watch music, which generally follows a jazz/funk/soul theme. Jones won 28 Grammy Awards and collaborated with some of music’s biggest names during his glittering career, so it’s safe to say he knows a thing a two about what constitutes a good night music-wise. In the early part of this year, David Davis, a soulful and vocal powerhouse, was the resident performer.
