Beam me up, Scotty… Straight into the set of the new Star Trek movie.

According to The National, there’s an open casting call for extras to appear in the new Star Trek movie being filmed in Dubai. The film, which will being shooting scenes in late September, is giving Dubai residents the chance to bag a part.

Reports claim the casting for extras is being held from Tuesday August 11 to Thursday August 13 at Dubai Studio City soundstage, between 2pm and 8pm.

Miranda Davidson Studios, who are holding the casting, are yet to comment (possibly to limit the number of people who turn up). However, ShortList has done some digging, and according to our well-placed sources, the reports are true.

Dubai was announced as a location for the film, which will be called Star Trek Beyond, last month. This is the 13th movie of its kind, however, since the new cast and director took control of the (space)ship in 2009, this is the third release. Directed by Justin Lin, and starring Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto, it’s expected to hit the box office in July next year.

Dubai will play host to various location shoots, while Dubai Studio City is expected to provide technical support. Vancouver has also been announced as a location.

Jamal Al Sharif, chairman of Dubai Film and TV Commission and managing director of Dubai Studio City said: “We are delighted that Dubai has been selected for the filming of this international blockbuster production, particularly to mark their 50th anniversary, and we look forward to welcoming the Star Trek team. Not only will this shine the spotlight on Dubai and the UAE’s excellent locations, infrastructure and flexibility, but it will significantly boost the UAE’s economy, tourism and entertainment sectors.”
