Blur set to headline Abu Dhabi F1?

Rumour has it that Blur will bring their famous Britpop tunes to Abu Dhabi’s F1 Grand Prix this November. According to The National, the recently reformed nineties group are set to headline the event, although organisers Flash Entertainment are yet to confirm.

Most famous for their rivalry with fellow Britpop megastars Oasis, the London-based band were at the forefront of English pop rock in the mid-nineties. Songs like ‘Parklife’, ‘Coffee & TV’ and ‘Country House’ have crossed decades, cementing their place in British music history. Although arguably amongst the most famous bands of their decade, Blur’s chart domination didn’t quite follow them into the 2000s, although their 2003 album Think Tank won streams of awards.

The band quietly split shortly after releasing the album, and the foursome went on to pursue solo projects – and by solo projects, we mean that Alex James made cheese and Damon Albarn became a political activist. Years later their claimed that “splitting up was the best thing that we ever did.” Now back with a brand new album The Magic Whip, Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, Alex James and Dave Rowntree are performing together again after six years apart.

Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is on from November 27 to 29. Watch this space for more news and line-up announcements.
