7 things to do in Dubai this weekend

Published

on

One of the most exciting events on the calendar (in our opinion) is back this weekend, as Hopfest returns with over 100 different brews. We’ve also got music from some seriously cool underground DJs, a brand new ‘secret’ bar inside China Grill, and as if that wasn’t enough, Southpaw is finally out in UAE cinemas.

Jack Beats at Superheroes XXXL

Jack Beats started out on London’s underground music scene with an odd mix of genres expertly blended together to push the boundaries of house and bass. Now the duo are taking Dubai’s Superheroes by storm, with a thundering sound system and raucous party at Level 41 this Thursday. The duo remix everything from Beyoncé to Big Boi and Aloe Blacc, but while you may not know what’s coming next, it always has that special Jack Beats spin on it.

Hopfest

If you haven’t been to Hopfest at The Irish Village yet, you’ve probably been hiding under a very large rock. The hoptastic event (yes, we said it) is back for another three-day party this weekend, from August 27 to 29. The main attraction is, of course, the hops. This year’s festival has over 100 brands from all over the world (don’t challenge yourself to try them all), featuring weird and wonderful flavours like elderflower, orange, peach and even chocolate.

Juliet Sikora at Square

DJ, producer and record label boss Juliet Sikora is a regular at Germany’s major clubs and events, and on Thursday she’s bringing her blend of melodic house to Dubai. See her live at Square nightclub, for what’s set to be a wild night of funk-filled riffs and old-school basslines.

Friday

Cinema – Southpaw

Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Billy Hope, a boxer who has recently lost his wife (played by Rachel McAdams, who is rumoured to be dating Gyllenhaal in real life). With his daughter in protective services, Billy turns to his trainer for help repairing the chaos around him. Read more about Jake Gyllenhaal’s crazy workout routine to get in shape for the part here.

Industrial Avenue

It seems the speakeasy is on the march. Upscale restaurant and lounge China Grill, located in The Westin, Mina Seyahi, has decided to convert what was once a warehouse-like space next door into a chic “secret” bar, accessible through a hidden entrance. This Friday it’s open for the post-brunch crowd from 4.30pm until 3am.

Garden

Is there anything more en vogue than Peruvian food? Garden, the newly opened restaurant in JW Marriott Marquis is the latest eatery to tempt diners with seafood ceviche’s and freshly sliced tiraditos. The authentic space is true to its name, with Garden inspired interiors and walls decorated by local artist Fathima Mohiuddin.
