Dubai’s movie-inspired theme park looks incredible

It’s difficult to know where to begin with Motiongate. The colossal theme park, which is set to open in Jebel Ali in October 2016, will be 1.9 million square feet (that’s more than 25 football pitches). The so-called “Hollywood” theme park will have 27 attractions inspired by 13 blockbuster films.

As a collaboration between DreamWorks Animation, Sony Pictures and Lionsgate, you can expect films like The Hunger Games, Ghostbusters, Zombieland and Shrek. Attractions include rollercoasters, multimedia theatre and a massive water ride which will use 793,000 gallons of water.

General Manager of Motiongate, Guido Zucchi, said of the park, “It’s going to be like Hollywood in the desert.” And if they pull off this mega-project, he isn’t exaggerating.

Hotel Transylvania is housed inside a 2,800 square metre castle, which will take you inside a party hosted by monsters. Apparently the scary ride will have plenty of twist and turns, as well as a 42 metre peak.

It all sounds pretty incredible, but we can’t help but feel nervous about what The Hunger Games attraction will entail… hopefully not a bunch of teenagers chasing us with weapons.

The theme park will be part of Dubai Parks and Resorts grand plan to become the largest leisure destination in the Middle East. When the monumental project is finished, there will also be a Bollywood theme park, a retail centre, a hotel operated by Marriott, and a separate Legoland park.

Apparently more than 11,000 people are currently working on the park to get it ready for the grand opening next year.
