8 things to do in Abu Dhabi this week

Published

on

The Eid break may be over but there’s still plenty to do in our gorgeous UAE capital – like the reopening of the rooftop at p&c by Sergi Arola (formerly everyone’s hot pick Pearls and Caviar), and the return to outdoor fitness classes. We don’t want to jinx it but it’s high time the weather was in our favour, and whether we’re in Downward Facing Dog or dancing in the moonlight to an Abu Dhabi lineup of soul talent on Saadiyat Beach, we’ll be taking full advantage of it.

Sounds of the Sea Screening
Kick off the week with some cinematic culture at this film screening New York University’s Saadiyat campus. Directed by Nujoom Alghanem and written by Khalid Al Budoor, it tells the story of an ageing Emirati fishing community once praised for their sea songs. Despite being phased out and forgotten by a younger generation and new fishing practices, their hope is to revive the old days of adventure with Saif Alzibadi, the legendary sea singer who would accompany the men on voyages.
When: Sunday September 27, 6:30pm
Where: Conference Centre, NYUAD Saadiyat Campus, Saadiyat Island,

Sundowners at p&c Bar
Great news! The rooftop at p&c by Sergi Arola (formerly Pearls and Caviar) has reopened its doors to welcome in the increasingly good weather. If we could pick one thing to do straight from work this evening, it’d be to nestle into the bar’s contemporary lounge furniture and make the most of the view with a couple of sundowners. They even have their own jazz radio station to set the right mood.
When: Fridays from 6pm and 4pm
Where: p&c by Sergi Arola, adjacent to The Villas by Shangri-La, +9712 509 8555; www.shangri-la.com/abudhabi/shangrila/

Outdoor Ashtanga Yoga Class
We’re all for more outdoor time nowadays – hiding in front of the air-conditioning has done enough damage. Add more oomph to your mind and body with an invigorating Ashtanga class in Abu Dhabi’s most beautiful park. Ziv of Let’s Go Yoga will lead this sequence in a soothing open green space, and it promises to challenge you as well as chill you out. The AED65 cover charge includes the park entry fee, but note that bookings are recommended.
When: Mondays at 7pm
