UAE public holiday expected on October 15

Islamic New Year may fall on October 15, according to projected national holiday dates for the UAE. Also known as Hijri New Year, the celebration could mean a long weekend for office workers, who are expected to be off next Thursday.

There has been a strong indication that Hijri New Year is coming next week, with the evening of Wednesday October 14 being dry. Restaurants and bars will be dry on Wednesday from 6pm, until Thursday at 7pm.

This will make Thursday the first day of the new Islamic calendar – a date that changed every year depending on lunar sightings.

So it may be a three day weekend! We’ll update you when the official announcement is made.
