8 things to do in Dubai this weekend

Long weekend, we’re ready for you. Instead of our usual “6 things to do” we’ve gone with 8, seeing as most of us have more time off this week. Ladies can head to Sephora to get glammed up for the days ahead, which are packed with theatre, parties, art and cinema. See you on the other side.

Sephora Beauty Studio
The make-up favourites have re-launched their popular Beauty Studio, which offers make-up services including application and consultations. Opt for a free 15-minute look to test out some new products, or book in for a paid service. A 30-minute appointment (without contouring) is AED100, while a 45-minute full make-up appointment is AED150. You’ll be brunch ready in no time.

Art Fair Dubai 
Following its successful launch in 2014, Art Fair Dubai has returned, with its three day event hosting more than 30 international galleries and independent artists from the likes of Korea, UK, Switzerland, Egypt, Burma, Singapore and India Visitors are not only exposed to an array of original paintings, prints, sculptures and photography, but the event also promotes access to the creative minds behind the pieces. Allowing patrons to both interact with and learn from a number of burgeoning artists and established galleries.

Journey Thru House
This fantastic series is a regular feature at the venue and this month features legendary DJ Brandon Block as well as a live performance from soul sister Angie Brown.

Woman in Black
This spine-chilling adaptation of Susan Hill’s 1983 gothic ghost story, in which a young actor helps recount Arthur Kipps’ eerie journal about strange visitations from a mysterious woman, has visited the UAE three times now, playing to a combined audience in excess of 15,000 people. The Madinat Jumeirah Theatre is again the host for what will be nine performances over seven days.

Nasimi Sessions
After a stellar first season, Nasimi return with a weekly line up of knock out DJs and live acts. Look out for Swedish turntable maestro Otto Knows, Italian DJ duo Vinai and a live performance by AronCupa, the man behind the infectious hit “Albatraoz”.

Cinema – Black Mass
Based on a true story, Black Mass is about the most violent criminal in Boston’s history, Whitey Bulger. As the Mafia start to encroach on Whitey’s business, he teams up with the FBI, becoming an informant in order to rid South Boston of the Mafia’s hold.

Rocktober Fest
The region’s rock, tattoo and automobile enthusiasts will all unite under one roof this week,  all in aid of Dubai’s first Rocktoberfest event. Featuring a car show with 250 hot rods, an art and tattoo festival highlighting body art culture, all capped off with a music concert.

Dubai Watch Week
Ok this is the wrong side of the weekend, but it’s still worth marking in your diary. Given the bling people have a proclivity to sport on their wrist here, it’s somewhat surprising that this is the region’s first ever watch exhibition. Expect to see some of the finest timepieces around, unique horology masterclasses and some beautiful, locally-made efforts being auctioned off as well.
