6 things to do in Dubai this week
This week brings the catwalk to the city, with Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience parading the latest looks in The Dubai Mall. As well as films and ladies nights aplenty, The Laughter Factory brings new comedy to the city, and we’ve got two big music events with Sensation and Take That.
Cavalli Club Ladies Night
If you aren’t quite ready to say goodbye to the weekend then Cavalli Club is the place to be. Start the night with a girl’s dinner and receive a complimentary bottle of bubbles. After dinner you can hit the dance floor for a boogie and quench your thirst with an unlimited selection of drinks at the bar until the early hours of the morning.
When: Sundays, 9.30pm to 1am
Where: Fairmont Hotel, Sheikh Zayed Road, +971 4 332 9260, Website
Dubai Laughter Factory
We’re at the tail-end of what is the Dubai Laughter Factory’s 20th year, so that should be all the more reason to give yourself the night off in the name of a chuckle or two. Comics include Andy Askins and Wayne Deakin.
When: October 27 & 29
Where: McGettigans JLT and Grand Millenium Hotel, Tecom, www.thelaughterfactory.com
Cinema – The Walk
You may remember Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the man who walked on a tight rope between New York’s twin towers without a safety net. The Walk tells the French stuntman’s story as he toys with death and the pushes boundaries.

Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience
A fashion show in a mall. Does a vision of middle-of-the-road clothes, amateur models and pounding chart music spring to mind? Not here. Not when Vogue is involved. Not when Dubai is involved. The Vogue Fashion Dubai Experience is in its third year and will again be taking over part of The Dubai Mall with runways shows, lectures, talent scouting and special events. The centrepiece is, as far as the public is concerned, the Fashion Show, which will take place on October 29.
When: Thursday October 29
Where: The Dubai Mall, www.vfdebyemaar.com
Catch Parisian DJ and chart-dominator Martin Solveig, along with Sander van Doorn, Quintino and Yves V at Sensation this weekend. The troupe of DJs will light up Meydan Racecourse in an ocean of white, so make sure you dress appropriately!
When: Friday October 30
Where: Meydan Racecourse, tickets
Take That in concert
The one-time quintet may now be a trio, but you have to credit Take That for their endurance. With two decades of hits to unleash, expect all the tried-and-trusted classics. If you miss them on Friday, the boys will be performing again at the Hard Rock Cafe on Saturday. platinumlist.net
