6 things to do in Dubai this weekend

Published

on

It’s F1 weekend, so we don’t blame you if you want to spend all weekend in Abu Dhabi. Those of you who aren’t into racing can head to some of the parties here, watch the fun-filled Red Bull Flug Tag, or just chill out with a load of new movies at the cinema.

Formula One Abu Dhabi
OK, we know this isn’t in Dubai, but we can’t ignore it. The Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is, in terms of global reach, unquestionably the biggest sporting event to take place in the UAE. For one weekend, the capital hosts Formula 1’s glamorous travelling circus, complete with its superstar drivers, A-list entertainers, celebrity fans and people with more money in their back pocket than the rest of us earn in a year. It’s not just cars, teams and drivers, though. The whole weekend is as much about the music, the parties, the yachts and the general upscale socialising on offer as anything to do with pistons and pit-stops. See you there.
When: November 27 to 29
Where: Yas Marina, Abu Dhabi, www.yasmarinacircuit.com/en/formula-1

Superheroes 2nd Birthday
It’s the second anniversary of Media One’s Superheroes club night, which has been taking place at the end of every month for, well, the last two years. To mark the occasion, the venue has recruited DJs Tom Real and Scott Forshaw to take you through the realms of house, garage and bass.
When: November 26
Where: Dek on 8 Media One Hotel, www.platinumlist.net

Red Bull Flug Tag
The brave and the brainy alike congregate to propel their homemade flying machines off an elevated deck into Dubai Creek, in pursuit of a new record “flight” distance.
When: November 27
Where: Dubai Creek Park, www.redbullflugtag.com/uae/en/

Urban Picnic at Vida Downtown
Every Friday and Saturday, 3in1 restaurant at Vida Downtown rolls out the blankets for a special picnic brunch. Enjoy delicious food and drinks poolside (we recommend getting a cabana for an extra AED100 per person) with a resident DJ providing chill out tunes. Prices start at AED265 for soft drinks and AED295 for house beverages.
When: Fridays and Saturdays
Where: Vida Downtown, +971 4888 34444, www.vida-hotels.com

Korean Barbecue
Dubai’s first ever Korean Food festival is coming to the Downtown area, bringing with it the best of South Korean gastronomy alongside traditional national dances and exhibitions. And, if you want to build up your appetite, you can try Tae-Kwan-Do for size, beforehand.
When: November 27 and 28
Where: Mega Bowl, Zabeel Park, www.foodfair.or.kr/eng

Creed: Rocky’s Legacy (18tc)
Yep, it’s another Rocky film. This time around, the increasingly inaudible Sylvester Stallone serves as trainer-cum-mentor to, wait for it…Apollo Creed’s son (Michael B Jordan). Somehow, Balboa must teach the troubled Creed Jr to shrug off the expectation that comes with his father’s name, and then try to channel his teen angst and penchant for throwing punches into becoming a boxing champ.
In cinemas November 26

England v Pakistan
With the Test and One-Day Series already completed, three T20 matches signal the end of England’s visit to the UAE. With Pakistan having won the Test spoils, and England (at the time of writing) looking likely to claim the One-Day Series win – it’s all to play for now.
When: November 26 and 27
Where: Dubai International Cricket Stadium
