Guide to buying a Christmas tree in Dubai

Christmas is a season of smells. Cinnamon, orange peel, nutmeg, a turkey slow roasting in the oven and, for many, pine needles. Sometimes Christmas just isn’t Christmas until you’ve dragged a two-metre spruce into your front room and thrown coloured glass at it. You can buy the real thing in the UAE, although you might have to be quick about it. Here are the places you should try first:

Dubai Garden Centre
Where: Sheikh Zayed Road
Contact: +9714 340 0006
The landmark just by Exit 42 on Sheikh Zayed Road received its shipment of Nordmann firs from Denmark this week. They are 2.5 metres and retail for AED795.

Oleander
Where: Academic City
Contact: +9714 287 3323
They received their order of Fraser firs from Canada last week, the majority of which are between 2m-2.5m. Prices start at AED595.

TIP: Do not purchase your real tree before December 1 as it won’t last the season. According to UK-based supplier Needlefresh, the best time is after December 9.
