It’s an extremely exciting week for UAE, with Star Wars: The Force Awakens finally hitting screens after what has seemed like the longest wait of our lives. Those of you who aren’t Jedi fans have still got plenty to enjoy – Sean Kingston and his “Beautiful Girls” are taking to the stage at the opening of Vii Club, and Years & Years and Rudimental are playing live at Nasimi on Friday.

Race Night at Meydan
Definitely one of the better ways to spend a Thursday night in our view, this is the fourth race night of the season at Meydan, where you can watch high-quality thoroughbred racing from the comfort of a grandstand seat or picnic area. Get there early for your Pick 6 cards.
When: Thursday, December 17
Where: Meydan Racetrack,

Sean Kingston at Vii Club
Vii Terrace and Lounge has proven extremely popular, so we have no doubt that the venue’s latest nightlife hangout, Vii Club, will be packed out for opening night. To celebrate the club’s launch, Sean Kingston will be making a special performance on Thursday night. You know you want to hear “Beautiful Girls” live…

Years & Years, Rudimental, Roger Sanchez & Goldfish at Nasimi
British trio and major up-and-comers Years & Years are bringing their blend of electropop, 90s house and R&B to Nasimi beach on Friday. You may recognise tracks such as “King”, which hit number 1 in the UK singles chart, and “Shine” which came in at number 2. Also on the bill is drum and bass favourite Rudimental, who can’t seem to keep away from Dubai. Roger Sanchez and Goldfish complete the line-up. Tickets are AED295 for general admission and AED495 for VIP.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens (PG)
The return of the franchise has garnered an extra level of regional excitement having been shot in-part in Abu Dhabi. As Disney’s first foray into the sci-fi behemoth, ex-Star Trekdirector JJ Abrams faces a daunting challenge to keep the legions of fanboys happy, but George Lucas himself seems to approve, branding The Force Awakens as “very much the kind of movie the fans have been looking for.” And then, of course, there’s the return of Hans Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. We’re excited.

One of the biggest DJs on the underground planet makes a hugely anticipated return to the UAE. You may have to arrive the night before for this one, especially as he’s supported by the in-demand duo Adriatique and Raxon.

The modern woman show
It might be taking place at the exact same time as the Winter Festival, but this will be a more grown-up affair. Free to enter, it includes fashion and beauty brands, great offers, a fashion show and seminars covering the likes of networking for Arab Women and entrepreneurship.

Where: DWTC,

Dubai Winter Festival
As we mentioned in the last issue, there are a stack of Winter Festivals going on in the UAE this season, but this is the biggest of them all. Held at the Dubai World Trade Centre, this festive mega-carnival includes Christmas carol singers, a massive market, a pantomime, an ice-skating rink, a huge Christmas tree, at least one visit from Santa, a huge funfair and even a snowball fight zone. There’s also a load of live entertainment and general fun that will whip everyone up into the kind of frenzy that only a mountain of presents on December 25 will cure. You have been warned.
When: December 17-19
Where: DWTC,
