Cinema – The Hateful Eight
As 2016 kicks off, Tarantino’s frosty western is ready for the screen and, as you would expect of the big man, the cast is packed with Hollywood vets (Kurt Russell), out-of-context A-listers (Channing Tatum) and old allies (Samuel L Jackson, Tim Roth).

Set in the US shortly after the Civil War, the film follows John “The Hangman” Ruth (Russell), who is trekking through a Wyoming blizzard with his victim (1980s icon Jennifer Jason Leigh as Daisy Domergue), on her way to be hanged. Meeting bounty hunter Major Marquis Warren (Jackson) and alleged sheriff Chris Mannix (Walton Goggins) en route, they take shelter, where they meet the four remaining shady characters. From there, as you might imagine, things get messy, shots get fired and a whole lot of not-so-innocent blood gets spilled.

Hankook 24-hour
Dubai’s answer to Le Mans returns to the Autodrome this weekend. Held for the first time back in 2006, this has become a staple on the calendar as drivers of GTs and 24-hour specials – or silhouette cars – do battle over a full day and night of racing. The abundance of classes – 12 in total – and liberal regulations mean it is open to a number of local teams, making it one of the highlights of the racing calendar. Last year, the race was won by Black Falcon 2, with a Saudi, a Brit, a German and a Frenchman at the wheel as they completed 604 laps.

One Big Vibes
Okay, so we’re not a fan of the clunky grammar, but One Big Vibes has proven itself to be one of the better music events – with the promise even more now that it has teamed up with Red Bull Music Academy for a bigger, better event at Dubai Media City amphitheatre. Championing independent and live music in Dubai, one stage will serve up the likes of British singer-songwriter Jamie Woon – and his eight-piece band – and American dance production duo Wolf and Lamb. Another encouraging notch on Dubai’s music scene.
When: January 15
Where: Dubai Media City Amphitheatre,

International Day of Italian Cuisine
Three of the most noted Italian restaurants in the city are taking part in a day that celebrates the best of the cuisine from the country – from the products used to the cooking techniques that bring them to the plate. International Day of Italian Cuisine is just that, a global event in which restaurants around the world will participate. In Dubai, three members of the Jumeirah group are taking up the challenge: Alta Badia in Jumeirah Emirates Towers and, in Madinat Jumeirah, Segreto and Trattoria Toscana. Each of the restaurants will be serving Costoletta alla Milanese, which has been declared the official dish for this year’s event. It is the Italian version of a Weiner Schnitzel, only the breaded veal cutlet is cooked on the bone. All three restaurants will keep the item on their menus until January 23.

Beach Run DXB
Another week, another fun run. This one is very much geared towards families with thousands of runners of all ages and abilities being invited to take part in the three different race lengths – 1.8km family run, 3.6km fun run, 7.2km relay race – on the sand. Our calves are hurting already.
When: January 16, Sunset
