Published

It’s a windy start to the week, so let’s hope that things improve for the Dubai Desert Classic golf tournament, teeing off on Monday. If you’d rather stay indoors, check out Nippon Bottle Company’s ladies night, get in the groove at Movida, or catch a new movie at the cinema.

The Omega Dubai Desert Classic is making its return to Dubai, with the event (with a whopping prize of $2.5 million) being held at Emirates Golf Club’s Majlis Course. Rory McIlroy and Henrik Stenson are possible the most famous golfers teeing off but (providing the weather improves) it’s always a good day out whether you’re there to watch the golf or not.

Cinema – Brooklyn (PG15)
Based on the novel by Colm Toibin, Nicky Hornby’s cinematic adaption follows young Irish girl, Eilis (Saoirse Ronan) who, yearning for fresh horizons, makes the daunting move to New York in the 1950s. As an immigrant swallowed up by the Big Apple, and having grown up amid the pastures of Ireland’s County Wexford, Eilis is soon homesick. However, salvation comes in the form of Italian-American Tony, until a family loss pulls Eilis back to her homeland, where a job and a smitten local lad make her question her future.
In cinemas from January 28

White Cube… Literally
In 1936, Alfred H Barrs revealed the first white cube art display in his exhibition Cubism and Abstract Art when he was the director of the Museum of Modern Art in New York. It has since become a common artistic meme and, in Amanda Abi Khalil’s curated exhibition, a number of artists’ own white cubes have been collected in one place. As a result, the exhibition offers its own challenge to modern art by quite literally presenting white cubes within a white cube gallery space.
When: March 3
Where: Isabelle van den Eynde, Alserkal Avenue, www.ivde.net
