Food trucks gather in Dubai for Eat the World DXB

The food-truck fad has already hit Dubai but it will get another major boost with the arrival of the best mobile kitchens London has to offer. Fifteen of the British capital’s best food trucks have made the 7,000-kilometre journey to Dubai’s (increasingly interesting) Burj Park, where they’ll join 12 local food trucks to form the city’s biggest food court. One of them is The Roadery owned by Dan Shearman. We asked him what we can expect.

Where is your usual pitch?
We trade at some of the best markets in London, including KERB, a street food collective in London, who have spots all over the city. On the weekend, I trade at Brockley Market, which is an amazing farmers’ market and provides me with almost all of the organic produce used in my menu.

Is it your first time here?
No, actually. We came last year to trade in Madinat Zayed, Al Ain and Abu Dhabi, which was amazing. People went crazy for it… we were like the One Direction of street food! When this came up, I jumped at it. I mean, to trade in the sunshine with the Burj Khalifa as a backdrop? It beats shivering in the British winter!

Any famous fans?
We catered for the new Star Wars film. Feeding Harrison Ford beef ribs has been my highlight so far.

Tell us about the food…
We promote an ethical way of eating by using as much of the animal as possible. We take some of the forgotten cuts of meat and get creative to serve unique dishes. All of the produce we use is British, or wild foraged ingredients. I grew up in a forest foraging for wild food as a kid, so have brought that element into our menu. I’m known as the “Wild Man of Street Food” back home!

What are your best sellers?
Our British tacos (Bracos), by far. The strong front runner being the low and slow pulled beef cheek with salsa, fresh pickles, and a wild blackberry hot sauce – the recipe for which will die with me.

When: February 25-27
