Cirque du Soleil to return to Dubai
Cirque du Soleil is one of the most famous circus shows in the world, and the iconic performers are set to bring their death-defying stunts to Dubai this September.
The signature show, Varekai, featuring over 50 performers in a display of dazzling acrobatics and dance, will take place at Dubai World Trade Centre from September 16 to 24.
Varekai, which translates as “whatever” in Romani, is a story of the nomadic soul told through the art of circus. It’s likely to be a sell-out due to the show's popularity across the world (it has been watched by 10 million people since 2002), and the success of Cirque du Soleil’s last stop in Dubai in 2013.
What was founded by two former street performers is now an entertainment concept considered the largest theatrical producer in the world.
Some of the world’s best acrobats perform in Varekai – and they have to be at the top of their game due to the dangerous stunts performed. One of the nail biting stunts involved acrobats performing aerial trapeze above the audience, and another sees them throw each other around while their bodies are contorted into seemingly intolerable positions.
