Dubai singer drops out of UK X Factor

Filipina expat, Ivy Grace Paredes, who has called Dubai home for many years, made waves on this year’s X Factor UK. Let’s give you a little recap – Simon Cowell said the 33-year-old’s audition was “one of the best we’ve had”, Louis Walsh called her a “little diva”, the four judges voted her through to the next stage and we were all excited.

She continued to impress during the boot camp auditions, singing Mariah Carey’s “One Sweet Day” and was one of just 24 remaining hopefuls. Sadly, this is where it all went wrong.

A spokesperson told The Telegraph that in order to compete in the show, she had to get a US visa for Judges Houses stage. “As with all contestants travelling to the US for Judges Houses, Ivy was required to have a visa,” the spokesperson said. “Unfortunately there was an issue with her application being approved which meant that she was not granted a visa in time and sadly had to withdraw from the competition.”

Paredes would have gone to judge Sharon Osbourne’s house with the rest of the chosen over-25s group. It’s not known why her visa may have been rejected.

In her first audition, Paredes told the judges that she was there to make a better life for her two-year-old daughter. “I believe this is the biggest competition and I want to be part of it. X Factor can give me the stepping stones I need to do good in the future because this is all for my daughter,” she said.

Dubai residents were rooting for the singer, who has called the city home for seven years, regularly performing in the Comedy Junction Bar. No doubt she’ll pull in a massive crowd next time she steps up to the mic.
