The Girl on the Train (18)
With echoes of Alfred Hitchcock’s voyeuristic horror Rear Window, The Girl on the Train charts the daily commute of recent divorcée Rachel (Emily Blunt) and her obsession with the seemingly perfect couple (played by Luke Evans and Haley Bennett) she witnesses from her seat each morning. However, when she sees the woman in the arms of another man, her shock leads to a chain of events that she doesn’t understand. Blunt is excellent in this decent reworking of Paula Hawkins’ novel.

Riot (PG13)
What is it about films set in prison that are so enduringly watchable? Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile, Mean Machine, Cool Hand Luke… every generation has at least one stone-cold cellblock classic. Riot probably won’t be joining that esteemed company, but any concept built around Dolph Lundgren, Matthew Reese and former UFC fighter Chuck Liddell is going to have the right blend of bad one-liners and thuggish violence. Lundgren plays Russian kingpin Balam, who controls his empire from behind bars – only for Jack (Reese) to seek his throne.

Well, if you liked that, you’ll probably like this – a film built around the exact same premise. Only extended. This is the true-ish story of the crew of the USS Indianapolis who, towards the end of WWII, are stranded in the Philippine Sea for five days – with only sharks for company. Nicolas Cage’s furrowed brow takes the lead.
