Leonardo DiCaprio fans in the UAE, stay calm. It seems that the 42-year-old actor and environmentalist was visiting Dubai over the weekend to check out the Sustainable City.

A picture uploaded to a fan page show the star of The Revenant visiting the green project. Initially the Portuguese account said that the picture was taken in Rwanda, but later corrected it with a further tweet saying that it was actually Dubai.

Others have seen him enjoying various spots in the city, including One & Only Royal mirage on The Palm Jumeirah, where he is believed to be staying.

The Sustainable City in Dubai describes itself as: “a modern application of social, economic and environmental sustainability in the build environment. Achieved through innovative design, stakeholder engagement and future monitoring to sustain itself. The first operational Net Zero Energy city in Dubai, and is modelled to become an international showcase for sustainable living, work, education, and recreation.”

The project is on the outskirts of Al Qudra, and the development has residential clusters of homes with solar panels, as well as an area called “The Farm”, which forms the Central Green Spine with 3,000 square metres for urban farming. There is also an area for shops, restaurants and offices, a solar car park and an equestrian centre.

The new development has 2,500 trees to help purify the air, and a hotel called Hotel Indigo which is run 100% on solar power.

The actor is passionate about the environment and climate change. In fact, when he won his first Oscar, he used the pinnacle moment in his career to talk about the subject.

“Making The Revenant was about man’s relationship to the natural world. A world that we collectively felt in 2015 as the hottest year in recorded history,” he said. “Our production needed to move to the southern tip of this planet just to be able to find snow. Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating.”
